Biological Sample Collection
So much we can learn!
Our bodies carry important records of the chemicals that come into our bodies and chemicals produced within our bodies. By collecting samples we can learn about what the body is expressing now, and sometimes, what the body has experienced in the past. These samples provide us a snapshot into how the body is changing during pregnancy and how different experiences might "get under the skin" to shape development before birth. For example, hair and nail samples provide a little time capsule chemical record of cortisol, an important stress hormone. Microbiome samples tell us about the unique microbial ecosystem that every individual expresses differently and might play an important role in healthy brain development.
